We are John Deere Series: Tobias Fiedler

Mannheim Works engineer helps build water wells in Africa, and also volunteers as a firefighter.

Twice the Volunteer

Sitting at the kitchen table in his apartment in Mannheim, Germany, Tobias Fiedler scrolls through photos from his latest visit to Africa.

Fiedler, an engineer at John Deere's Mannheim facility, spends much of his vacation time traveling for Engineers Without Borders, an organization that helps build clean water wells in Africa.

When he's not traveling, he often spends his nights fighting fires as a volunteer fireman for the downtown Mannheim fire station.

"To do volunteering work or to help somebody in the community, it makes the world, or the ball, a little rounder," he said, "and makes the world a little better place."

His colleagues at Mannheim Works describe Fiedler as someone who is highly motivated to help others, and inspires good work in those around him.
