As a picker/packer, Anderson covers a lot of ground each day on a forklift searching for parts inside the massive John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Ill.

Many things Tim Anderson values in life, he learned on the basketball court. He says these are some of his best lessons: Know your role and do it well. Make sure your team can count on you. Step in to help when you’re needed.

For Anderson, a former professional basketball player who now works as a picker/packer at the John Deere North American Parts Distribution Center (PDC) in Milan, Ill., that means making sure he’s working as quickly and efficiently as possible. The customers in need of John Deere parts from that facility are counting on him, he says. Teamwork among he and his co-workers to locate parts and to get them shipped make it happen.

The customer is the one you really have to impress. ”

“I’m blessed to be in a position to help so many, and I understand the global effect of what we’re doing here,” says Anderson. “I have to go at it as though I know this customer and I want to make sure he gets his part.”
