Lord Mayor’s Show 2015: The 800th Anniversary of the Historic Parade

A John Deere 9RX Series Tractor parades through central London

A John Deere 9RX Series Tractor was on parade in central London for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show, one of the United Kingdom’s most historic parades that took place November 14, 2015 and was broadcast by the BBC. It was the 800th anniversary of the event.

Alongside the John Deere 9RX was an immaculately restored model John Deere 4020 Tractor, manufactured and registered in 1966, towing a trailer with 3D graphics depicting a vibrant and futuristic industry that embraces science and technology. Five young farmers accompanied the machines to promote farming to hundreds of thousands of people lining the route of the three mile procession through the British capital.

The John Deere U.K. & Ireland sales branch supported The Worshipful Company of Farmers and the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) in the parade to demonstrate farming as a modern, forward-thinking industry that has adopted cutting-edge technology such as robotic milking systems, GPS, drones, solar energy and electronic identification of livestock.

Survey says U.K. is split on farm tech

The U.K. is split over whether or not to recognize farming as a high-tech industry, according to a new survey commissioned by the NFU. The poll revealed that 43 percent of adults classify farming as high-tech compared to 38 percent who do not. Nineteen percent were unsure.

Poll: Is Farming a High-Tech business?

Survey commissioned by the National Farmers' Union.

NFU President Meurig Raymond said, “We know young people are very tech-savvy and I want them to be able to see the opportunities available to use those skills as part of a career in agriculture and its allied industries to help us deliver high quality food by developing an efficient, thriving, profitable and sustainable industry to meet the demands of a growing population.”

Chris Wiltshire of the John Deere U.K. & Ireland branch added, “In the 1960s the 4020 was ahead of its time and became the most popular tractor of its era. The new 9RX is now our flagship product that many large scale food producers are using. Next year John Deere celebrates 50 years of operation in the U.K. so we are extremely proud to back British farming and to demonstrate that support during this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show.”
